JUMBO Design Studio was founded by Monling Lee and Justin Donnelly on the principle that modern design is serious fun. The Fortune Chair is a culmination of Justin and Monling’s love of food, mastery of material, technical skill, and their mutual love of simple yet expressive design that is rooted in memory. The result is an enduring lounge chair with comfy curves and delicious color palette that invites you to sit and relax in the newest generation of accessible modern design.
The JUMBO duo are unabashed foodies and creatures of comfort who designed the Fortune Chair with nostalgia in mind. When Monling immigrated from Taiwan to the United States at the age of thirteen she enjoyed her very first fortune cookie. To this day she remains smitten with the cellophane-wrapped crispy wafer, its iconic pinched-circle shape and the surprise message hidden inside. This comfort food became the inspiration for the joyfully abstract Fortune Chair.
Brilliantly designed, the shape of the chair merely suggests the origin of the design, allowing one to delight in the discovery that the chair’s form is inspired by the beloved fortune cookie. Fortune Chair is crafted to meet contract-quality standards. The low-maintenance colorfast material and added drainage hole in the seat make this an ideal outdoor lounge chair. A hidden grip under the seat makes the chair easy to move. The nostalgic color palette and abstract shape is a mouthwatering solution in both residential and hospitality spaces.
